FREELAND, Mich.--The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the 2018-19 women's basketball coaches preseason poll, where Adrian College is slotted fifth in the nine-team race for this season.

The Bulldogs, who return four starters from last year's team, earned 31 points. Junior guard Shannon Garvey tops that group as she averaged 15.0 points on 47.4 percent field goal shooting en route to a potential all-conference campaign until an injury cut short her season to 12 games. Senior guard Ashley Morris is the team's career active scorer with 583 points and averaged 12.0 points, 5.1 rebounds in 2017-18. Rounding out the returning starting lineup are junior guards Emily Somerville (8.0 ppg), Aliva Kondrath (4.7 ppg).

Adrian brought in 10 freshmen to complement 10 student-athletes who saw game action a season ago, as the Bulldogs look to improve on their 8-16 overall record and 5-11 sixth-place finish in the MIAA.

Hope is first with 64 points (8 first-place votes), followed by Trine (56 points, 1 first-place vote), Albion (50 points), Calvin (44 points), Adrian (31 points), Olivet (27 points), Saint Mary's-Ind. (18 points), Alma (17 points) and Kalamazoo (17 points).

The 27th season in the Kathy Morris coaching era gets under way this weekend when the Bulldogs host non-conference foes Manchester on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Great Lakes Christian on Saturday (5 p.m.).
