Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight After Holding Off St. Mary's at Home, 60-51

ADRIAN, Mich.--Senior Ashley Morris scored a game-high 17 points, junior Alivia Kondrath netted 16 and junior Emily Somerville added 11 as the Adrian College women's basketball team won its third consecutive game with a 60-51 victory over visiting St. Mary's (Ind.) in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Sophomore Sha'Trice Graves (6 points) recorded a game-high 12 rebounds.

= Classmate Rachel Bucher (6 points) chipped in nine rebounds and led the team with five assists.

= Morris, who shot 5-for-8 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free throw line, added four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block to her statline. 

THE OPPOSITION
= Jade Mosier tallied 16 points to lead SMC while also getting five rebounds and two assists.

= Erin Maloney added 10 points, a team-best seven rebounds and a game-high five steals.

= Giavanna Paradiso also scored in double digits with 10 points and had five rebounds. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian held the Belles to a .373 field goal percentage (19-51) while shooting for a .444 clip (20-45).

= The Bulldogs also held advantages in the paint scoring (20-14) and on the glass rebounding (36-29).

= St. Mary's was held without a field goal for the final 2 minutes and 52 seconds after Maloney's layup cut the deficit to 53-48. During that stretch, the Belles missed six field goal attempts while Adrian made 7-of-8 free throws to hold SMC at bay.

= Adrian started the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to go up 50-42. Bucher made a free throw and freshman Rylee Campbell made a layup to put the Bulldogs ahead to stay.

= St. Mary's led 17-14 by the end of the first quarter after being down six points (Somerville hits back-to-back 3balls) in the early going. The Belles scored treys on their next three possessions--by Mosier, Maloney and Sophie Koeppl--made it 12-11 Adrian.

= Morris scored 11 of her 17 points in the second quarter when Adrian outscored SMC 18-12 to give the Bulldogs a 32-29 halftime lead. But before that, SMC had its biggest lead of the night of six points at 23-17 with 6:04 to go. 

= Adrian never trailed in the second half. The Bulldogs went up 39-32 on a Bucher layup with 6:32 to go in the third quarter before SMC ended the stanza on a 10-3 run to tie it 42-42.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian avenges a 71-56 loss to the Belles in Indiana back on Dec. 8.

= The Bulldogs improve to 30-17 all-time against St. Mary's, including 20-5 at home.

= On the school's career charts, Morris now ranks 15th with 378 rebounds (375, Sarah Vincke, 1999-2003) and 12th with 176 assists (173, Brigitte Zavithsanos, 2013-17).

= Adrian's scoring defense is just 43.3 points per game during the three-game winning streak.

= The Bulldogs played their first home game since Jan. 2--a string of five in a row on the road.
