FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College sophomore Brooke Symons (Sterling Heights/Stevenson High School) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Golfer of the Week, the MIAA office announced on Monday. Symons' first weekly conference award comes on the heels of a record-setting week.
Symons shot a 162 over two MIAA Jamboree events in three days, including a 76 to capture the MIAA Jamboree#2 on Saturday at the Zollner Golf Club in Angola, Ind. The victory marked several milestones including her first collegiate win, a school-record low score in a MIAA Jamboree event, and she becomes the first Bulldog in 17 years to capture a MIAA Jamboree event. The 76 also represents the lowest score so far in the MIAA Jamboree season.
With Symons helping lead the way, Adrian was able to shave off 31 strokes from its previous conference event and shoot a season's best 355 at Zollner.
Symons ranks tied for fourth in the conference standings with an 81.0-stroke average.
