Early Goals Guide Adrian Over UW-Eau Claire, 4-1

EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – The nationally ranked Adrian College (5-4-1, 3-4-1 NCHA) women's hockey team regrouped in game two, after a 2-1 loss last night in game one, and won convincingly 4-1 over the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire (2-7-1, 2-5-1 NCHA). Senior goalie transfer Brittany Zeches continues to impress for Adrian as she got the starting nod and accumulated a career-high 31 saves including 17 in the third period. Zeches improves to 3-0 on the season.

It took Adrian 11 minutes in the first period to score the first point of the game when sophomore Lauren Turner found freshman Hannah McGowan for the score for McGowan's fourth of the season. Less than three minutes later, the Lady Bulldogs took advantage of a power play opportunity with a score courtesy of sophomore Danielle Smith (her third of the year) for what proved to be the game-winner. Junior Ashley Gniewek was in on the assist. Adrian was not done yet.  At the 16:56 mark in the first, seniors Kelly Salis and Brooke Zaleski made a well-executed pass to classmate Jenna Corbin for her first score of the season to put Adrian up 3-0 at the first intermission.

In the second period, Adrian once again took advantage of a power play chance. This time is was with 43 seconds left as freshman Courtney Millar and sophomore Sarah Connelly connected with sophomore Rebecca Hampton to add to the Bulldogs' lead.

Adrian is back in action on Sunday, December 11 as they travel to The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at 8:00 p.m. EST.
