#4 Bulldogs Fall to #2 Elmira 5-1 on Opening Day of East-West Hockey Classic

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Adrian College women's hockey team fell to #2 Elmira 5-1 on the first day of the 8th Annual East-West Hockey Classic hosted by Norwich University. Rose Krasofsky was the lone goal scorer for the Bulldogs in the losing effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED


The score remained deadlocked after one period with both teams remaining scoreless through the first 20 minutes. The Bulldogs edged the Soaring Eagles in shots 8-7. Elmira won five of the nine faceoffs. Adrian had one power play opportunity in the first while remaining out of the penalty box.


Rose Krasofsky broke the tie in the opening minutes of the second period to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. She was assisted by Tory Harshman on the play.


The Soaring Eagles would score the tying goal at the 15:36 mark of the second period when Devyn Gilman scored off an assist from Shannon Strawinski.


Elmira earned the advantage in shots for the second period, 12-7. The score was 1-1 heading into the second intermission.


The Soaring Eagles scored 44 seconds into the third period to take their first lead of the game, 2-1. The goal was scored by Katie Granato. She was assisted by XX on the play.


Maddy Jerolman gave Elmira the insurance goal 8:30 into the third period. Granato scored an empty-net goal to seal the win for the Soaring Eagles with 2:24 remaining in regulation.

Strawinski poured it on with a goal at 18:36 of the third period.

TOP DOGS

• Krasofsky was the lone goal scorer for Adrian, her 10th of the season.

• Harshman tallied her 10th assist tallying the only other Adrian point in the game.

Kate Turner (L, 8-3-1) saved 28 of the 32 shots she faced.

THE OPPOSITION

• Granato scored twice--including the game-winning goal.

• Strawinski (1+1=2) and Gilman (1+1=2) each scored two points for the Soaring Eagles.

• Kristin Chivers also contributed an assist in the win.

UP NEXT

Adrian will play the host school Norwich tomorrow in the consolation game of the East/West Classic. That game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m., ET.
