DULUTH, Minn. – The Adrian College women's hockey team has been picked to finish first in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) regular season according to the preseason coaches' poll released on Friday, Oct. 19.
The Bulldogs have won the last four regular-season NCHA Championships and have qualified for the NCAA Tournament the last three years. Adrian is returning two All-Americans from last season, with junior blueliner Kelly O'Sullivan receiving first team honors and sophomore goaltender Kate Turner being named to the second team last year. Turner was also named the NCHA Freshman of the Year. Senior forward Tory Harshman, O'Sullivan, and Turner were all named to the NCHA All-Conference Team last year, with Turner and sophomore forward Brooke Schembri being named to the All-Freshman Team a year ago.
Adrian received the most possible first-place votes (nine) to obtain 81 points in the poll. The poll awards nine points for a first-place vote, eight for a second-place vote, etc. St. Scholastica finished second in the poll, with 71 points, while Lake Forest received the remaining first-place vote and ended with 67 points for third place. The Bulldogs face both squads on the road this year, traveling to St. Scholastica early in the year for a series on Nov. 16-17 before traveling to Lake Forest to close out January for a series on Jan. 25-26. The rest of the poll was Concordia Wisconsin (52), St. Norbert (48), Marian (41), Northland (32), Trine (21), Aurora (19), Finlandia (19).
Adrian opens its season next weekend when the Bulldogs travel to Wisconsin-River Falls for a pair of games on Oct. 27-28. The Black and Gold's first home games are the following weekend, when Northland visits Arrington Ice Arena for a series on Nov. 3-4. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 and 3 p.m. on Nov. 4.
