Bulldogs Fall to 0-3 at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Adrian College women's lacrosse team scored five goals in the first half as Piedmont pulled ahead 20-5 for the win. Alex Branum scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs in the losing effort. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Piedmont 20, Adrian 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half: Piedmont 11, Adrian 5

Emily Smith scored gave Adrian a 1-0 lead just 30 seconds into the first half.

• After the Lions tied the score at one, Alex Branum and Annika Nuler each scored to put the Bulldogs up by two, 3-1.

• Piedmont scored two goals to tie the game at 3 apiece.

Mariesa Johnson scored with 19:24 left before the half to give Adrian its last lead of the game, 4-3.

• The Lions scored seven straight goals to take a 10-4 lead with just 3:35 remaining in the half.

Alex Branum scored her second goal with 1:44 remaining to bring the score to 10-5.

Second Half: Piedmont 20, Adrian 5

• The Lions would finish the game scoring nine goals in the second half while holding Adrian to zero goals in the second to finish out the game.

TOP DOGS

Alex Branum (2,0) and Annie Rice (0,2) led Adrian in scoring with two points each.

• Smith, Nuler, and Johnson each scored a goal in the contest.

Gabriella Storin led the Bulldogs in ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (2).

• Nuler had a team-high three draw controls and hauled in two ground balls.

THE OPPOSITION

• Caitlin O'Brien (5,1), Kayla Jones (4,4), Jenna Smith (3,3), and Rowan Bumpass (3,1) led the Lions in scoring.

• Julianna Surgent had a game-high five ground balls and five caused turnovers.

• O'Brien also had five caused turnovers.

• Smith had a game-high five draw controls.

UP NEXT

• Adrian will play on the road a week from Saturday on March 11 against North Central (Ill.). The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
