Bulldogs Split With Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Adrian College softball team split with Heidelberg on Sunday afternoon winning game one 7-6 and losing game two 5-0. Jaime Lightner tallied two RBIs in the Bulldogs game one win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Adrian 7, Heidelberg 6

• Taylor Van't Land doubled to start off the second inning.

Krista Lynch singled on a bunt that moved Van't Land over to third.

Chelsea Shellman singled off a bunt, moving Lynch over to second and loading the bases.

• Kallie Derrer was hit by pitch, scoring Van't Land.

• Lightner singled to right field, scoring Shellman and Lynch, and advanced to second on the throw.

• Derrer scored after Destiny Rogers reached first on an error.

• After a strike out that gave Adrian its first out, Bryanna Collins doubled down the left field line, scoring both Rogers and Lightner to give the Bulldogs six runs on five hits in the inning.

• After a double to open the bottom of the second, Randi Kelsey singled to give Heidelberg its first run, cutting the Adrian lead to 6-1.

• A single advanced Kelsey to third before Taylor Hicks hit a sacrifice fly to score the second run of the inning.

• Kaitlyn Moore hit a homerun in the fourth to put the score at 6-3, Adrian.

• The final Bulldog run was scored by Maggie Foss after Lynch hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to give Adrian a 7-3 lead.

• Heidelberg scored its final three runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the score at 7-6 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Game Two: Heidelberg 5, Adrian 0

• Heidelberg scored one run in the first inning and four in the second to earn the 5-0 lead.

• Heidelberg's defense held Adrian to only two runs in game two with Kaitlyn Moore (W, 7-3) striking out 10 Bulldog batters in the victory.

TOP DOGS

Game One: Adrian 7, Heidelberg 6

• Lightner and Van't Land both went 2-for-4. Lightner also scored one run and tallied two RBIs; Van't Land scored one run.

• Collins hit 1-for-4 and recorded two RBIs.

• Lynch (1-for-2) and Derrer (0-for-2) each tallied a RBI and scored a run.

Paige Cubberly pitched three innings allowing seven hits and three runs and a home run.

Katie Jenkins (W, 2-5) pitched two innings. She allowed three hits and three runs.

Rebecca Neal registered her first save of the season, pitching two innings and allowed only one hit while striking out two batters and walking two others.

Game Two: Heidelberg 5, Adrian 0

Ashley Lenington (1-for-1) and Shellman (1-for-2) each tallied a hit for the Bulldogs.

Kaitlin Lock (L, 0-6) pitched six innings allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out five batters.

THE OPPOSITION

Game One: Adrian 7, Heidelberg 6

• Kaitlyn Moore was 3-for-3 and a RBI along with scoring three runs in game one.

• Kelsey (3-for-4) scored two runs and a RBI.

• Erin Chapman (L, 6-4) pitched a complete game. She allowed eight hits, seven runs (6 earned) while walking two and striking out four.

Game Two: Heidelberg 5, Adrian 0

• Casey Moore (2-for-3) and Renee Lovett (2-for-4) each recorded two hits in game two.

• Taylor Hicks, Joanna Catalano, Lovett, Moore, and Chapman each had one RBI.

UP NEXT

• Adrian hosts Calvin on Tuesday, April 4 in the team's first MIAA home doubleheader this season. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
