@AC_softball Places School-Record 15 on the NFCA Scholar All-America Team

NFCA Scholar All-America Division III Listings for 2015-16

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Adrian College softball team placed 15 student-athletes on the Easton/ National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Scholar All-America team for the 2015-16 academic year, which was announced this week.

That number tied with Franklin College for the most among NCAA Division III institutions and set a school record for NFCA Scholar All-Americans. Alma had the next closest figure among Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools with 12.

The criteria to be recognized as Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athletes is that a student-athlete achieve a 3.5 or better grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

The Bulldog honorees with the number of NFCA Scholar All-America citations in parentheses include junior infielder Kayla Belfiori (2) from Warren, Mich./Fraser High School; senior catcher Morgan Brandt (2) from Eastlake, Ohio/North; freshman infielder/outfielder Casey Cribbs (1) from Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek; freshman pitcher/infielder Paige Cubberly (1) from Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic; junior outfielder Kallie Derrer (2) of Mancelona, Mich.; senior outfielder Rebecca Greco (2) from Dearborn Heights, Mich. /Divine Child; junior pitcher/infielder Katie Jenkins (2) of Tekonsha, Mich.; sophomore infielder Mackenzie King (2) of Clarkston, Mich.; freshman pitcher/infielder Krista Lynch (1) from Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron; senior pitcher Kelsey Meyer (2) from Livonia, Mich. /Churchill; sophomore pitcher Rebecca Neal (1) from Waterford Township, Mich. /Waterford Kettering; junior catcher/outfielder Chelsea Shellman (2) of Romulus, Mich.; sophomore infielder Paige VanAtta (2) from East Lansing, Mich./Haslett; sophomore catcher/infielder Taylor Van't Land (2) from Clarksville, Mich. /Lakewood; and freshman catcher/infielder Natalia Younan (1) from Windsor, Ontario / Holy Names Catholic. 

"I think it's amazing that we continue to impress at the national level academically. Fifteen girls being recognized is a huge accomplishment," said Ashley Marinacci, who wrapped up her first season at the Bulldogs helm last spring. "Their hard work in the classroom deserves to be recognized beyond the Adrian Community."

Brandt was a 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America/Capital One Academic All-America® NCAA Division III softball third-team selection. Greco made the CoSIDA All-District VI First Team last spring, advancing to the national ballot.

In 2014-15, Adrian produced 12 NFCA Scholar All-Americans.
