Game Two Scoreline: Heidelberg 8-14-0 | Adrian 4-12-3

GAME ONE

Heidelberg opened the scoring in the first inning, starting things off with a leadoff triple that came around to score on a sac fly one batter later.

Adrian answered back in the fourth inning when senior pitcher Paige Cubberly hit a leadoff double over the left fielder's head. Junior Ashley Lenington came in to pinch run for Cubberly and advanced to third on a single from freshman Katie Connolly. A double steal then moved Connolly to third and brought Lenington home to get the Bulldogs on the board and tie the game up.

Connolly made it to third on a fly out and later scored when junior Madison Budde knocked a bloop single into shallow right, giving AC the lead, 2-1. The runs continued to come in the fourth for Adrian and sophomore Jamie Bell singled to left center to score Budde and junior Infinity Rogers. Four runs would be all the Bulldogs picked up in the inning, but it was enough to give them a three-run lead.

The Bulldogs doubled their lead in the fifth, scoring three more to make it 7-1. Cubberly made it to third on a fielder's choice and then advanced to third when Connolly ripped a double down the left field line. Cubberly came in to score during the next at bat when freshman Lauren McCulligh hit a deep ball to left center that was dropped by the center fielder.

Heidelberg made a pitching change after the error but that didn't stop the inning for AC as Rogers singled up the middle to score Connolly and move freshman Kayla Bozyk, who came in to run for McCulligh, to third. Bozyk then came home when Budde hit a sac fly to center.

The Student Princes got three runs back of their own in the bottom half of the fifth, canceling out the Bulldogs' big inning. Heidelberg loaded the bases with two outs and then hit three singles in a row to score the three runs until senior Krista Lynch made a diving stop at third and flipped the ball over to junior Destiny Rogers in time to end the inning.

Bell led off the sixth with a walk and then stole second and advanced to third on a fly out to right. Lynch then grounded out to third to score Bell to make it 8-4 in favor of Adrian. The 'Berg got one back in the bottom of the sixth to make it a three-run lead for AC once again. That would be the final run of the first game as the Bulldogs closed it out in the seventh to take the game 8-5.

GAME TWO

Heidelberg opened the second game the exact same way it did in the first, a leadoff triple that came around to score on the next at bat. The play at the plate was much closer this time, as sophomore left fielder Alaina Macksoud's throw home was just a fraction of a second to late for junior catcher Hope Kapelanski to make the tag.

Adrian fought back with a pair of triples of its own in the second, as Budde tripled to right to score I. Rogers to tie the game. Macksoud was up next and singled up the middle to score Budde and give the Bulldogs the lead. Infinity's sister Destiny then belted a triple over the right fielder's head to score Macksoud. D. Rogers was stranded at third but the Black and Gold still picked up three runs, all with two outs, to take the lead.

The Bulldogs added another one in the third, again with two outs. Kapelanski singled to start the inning and then advanced to third on the next two outs and came home on a Connolly single that landed on the left field line. Adrian threatened to score more, with runners on second and third but couldn't get them around to score, keeping the score at 4-1.

The 'Berg got one back in the bottom of the fourth when a leadoff single came around to score, after advancing to second on a wild pitch and third on a sacrifice bunt. AC threatened to score in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with one out but a pop out to the pitcher doubled up the runner at third. That would prove costly as the Student Princes tied the game up in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-4.

Heidelberg then blew the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth, taking the lead with a four-run spot, finalizing the split. It's the sixth daily split for the Bulldogs, as they split with Defiance yesterday and split their first four days of spring break in non-doubleheaders.
