Women's Tennis Blows Out Host Albion in MIAA Road Opener, 8-1

ALBION, Mich.--The Adrian College women's tennis team swept the doubles competition to set the tone for an 8-1 victory Tuesday night over host Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at the Ungrodt Tennis Center.

The visiting Bulldogs were led by senior Amber Laginess who prevailed at No. 2 doubles with classmate Olivia Neumann over Marceline Redick/Bella Scalise, 8-4, and then in her No. 2 singles match against Redick, 6-1, 7-5.

Sophomore Samantha Cyrus also was a double-winner for the Bulldogs after winning her No. 1 doubles with Almasy over Olivia Conover/Madelyn Polich, 8-1, and No. 3 singles bout versus Christina Rafaill, 6-0, 6-3. Neumann was the third member of the team to earn two points after winning her No. 5 singles encounter over Bella Scalise, 6-4, 6-2.

Other Adrian point earners were sophomores Sara Anthony at No. 4 singles, Makayla Jorgensen at No. 6 singles, and Makayla Jorgensen/Julia Maltbie at No. 3 doubles.

Olivia Conover picked up the Britons' lone point with a tough three-set victory over senior Renae Almasy at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).

Adrian is back on the courts on Saturday (1 p.m.) when it hosts MIAA opponent St. Mary's College (Ind.) at the Craft Tennis Complex.
