Women's Tennis Picks up First Win of the Season

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Adrian College women's team won its first match of the season on Tuesday, March 5, defeating Wentworth 7-2. Juniors Makayla Jorgensen and Julia Maltbie each won their singles matches without losing a single game.

Adrian picked up two points in doubles play, with the three doubles pairing of Jorgensen and classmate Elena Bishop won 8-1, and Maltbie and senior Mikayla Herig won 8-2 at the two slot. The junior pairing of Samantha Cyrus and Sara Anthony were in a battle at one doubles, but lost in extra sets, 9-7.

Cyrus was in another long match in singles play, ultimately falling in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 6-7(4), 7-10. The match at two singles also required a third-set tiebreaker, with Herig prevailing 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. The rest of the singles matches were dominated by Adrian, as the Bulldogs took all but three games in the three through six singles matches. Anthony took the match at three singles 6-1, 6-0 and Bishop won 6-2, 6-0 at four singles. The bottom two flights were completely controlled by AC, with Jorgensen and Maltbie winning the five and six spots, respectively, without losing a game, 6-0, 6-0.

The Bulldogs have an off day on Wednesday and then finish their spring break trip with a match against Concordia-Moorhead on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m.
