ALBION, Mich. – The Adrian College women's team won its opening match in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) competition this year, defeating Albion College 7-2 on Saturday, March 30. The Bulldogs swept doubles action and took four of the singles competitions for the win.

The junior duo of Sara Anthony and Samantha Cyrus rolled to an 8-3 victory at the top doubles spot and the third flight pairing of juniors Elena Bishop and Makayla Jorgensen got the job done with an 8-5 match. The two spot was tougher sledding, as both teams were tied at seven, forcing the match to go into a tiebreaker. Adrian prevailed in the extra session, with freshman Mackenna Crowley and junior Julia Maltbie completing the sweep of doubles play with an 8-7(5) decision, the first win of Crowley's career.

Cyrus and Anthony picked up wins at the top-two singles spots, with Cyrus winning 6-3, 7-6(6) at the top spot and Anthony rolling at two singles, 6-1, 6-2. The middle spots weren't as kind to the Bulldogs, with senior Mikayla Herig falling at the three spot and Bishop getting bested at the four spot. The fifth and sixth flights were back to Adrian's liking, with Jorgensen winning at five singles, 6-3, 7-6(4) and Maltbie taking the final flight, 6-2, 6-4.

Adrian is back on the courts on Tuesday, April 2 when the Bulldogs travel to Trine. First serve against the Thunder is scheduled for 4 p.m.
