Bulldogs Battle No. 1 Calvin Through Four Sets

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian's Liz Susitko (freshman, West Bloomington, Mich.) led the Bulldogs with 10 kills and 26 assists to record her first career double-double in a 3-1 losing effort to the No. 1 ranked Calvin Knights on Friday night. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Calvin 3, Adrian 1 (26-24, 25-27, 25-21, 25-19)

Records: Calvin (6-0, 2-0 MIAA), Adrian (1-5, 1-1 MIAA)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs battled Calvin throughout the match, forcing the Knights to extra-points in the opening two sets. Calvin was able to pull out the victory in set one, 26-24, but Adrian took set two (27-25) to tie the score at one set each.

The Knights fought off Adrian in set three, winning 25-21 to retake the lead 2-1. The fourth set remained close, however, Calvin was able to get the 25-19 win and seal the match.

The Knights had attack percentages of .353, .171, .344, and .324; the Bulldogs hit .152, .182, .261, and .059.

TOP DOGS

• Susitko added three service aces, seven digs, and a block assist to her stat line.

Carly Thomas (sophomore, Fishers, Ind.) and Jenai White (senior, Elkhart, Ind.) each tallied eight kills. Thomas also had two service aces, three digs, and two block assists.

Alex Tobler (freshman, Buchanan, Mich.) contributed seven kills, two digs, and two block assists.

Haley Mellon (senior, Adrian, Mich.) and Olivia Welch (junior, Vicksburg, Mich.) led the Bulldog defense with 15 and 13 digs respectively.

THE OPPOSITION

• Calvin's offense was paced by Jenna Lodewyk who dished a match-high 41 assists.

• Anna Kamp led the Knights attack with 22 kills. She also helped defensively with 11 digs.

• Emily Blankenspoor led the defense with 15 digs.
