ROCKLIN, Calif. — Three Bulldogs placed for the women's wrestling team in the Cliff Keen Women's West Coast Tournament of Champions in California on Saturday, Dec. 15, with the team finishing 7th out of the 17 teams competing.
Freshman Lacey Jung led Adrian with a third-place finish at 170. Jung dropped her first match of the tournament, but then rattled off six straight victories — including a fall in the consolation finals to capture bronze.
Assistant Coach Kassidy Block finished in fourth-place at 136 pounds, while freshman Shyann Ronning earned eighth-place at 130 pounds.
"I'm very pleased with their performance," said Head Coach Cliff Cushard. "Just 48 hours ago, we were focused on taking final exams. We spent the entire day Friday travelling. Today we weighed in and wrestled tough."
Freshmen Mackenzie Tayerle and Alex Moseley just missed out on placing at 123 pounds.
"I'm impressed with the mental strength of these wrestlers," Cushard said. "They are developing nicely as the season wears on. Every time we hit the mats I see improvement."
The Bulldogs are now off for winter break and will return to action in 2019 on Jan. 6 with a couple of Duals at Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
"I'm really looking forward to the second half of the season," Cushard said. "For now, these women get a well-deserved two-week break for the holidays. They should come back refreshed and ready to go for the final stretch to Nationals."
