ST. CATHARINES, Ontario — The Adrian College women's wrestling program is looking forward to getting back on the mat when the Bulldogs head to Canada for the team's first individual competition of 2019. The Black and Gold compete in the Brock University Open on Saturday, Jan. 12 in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Head Coach Cliff Cushard said he was impressed with how his team competed last weekend in dual victories over Lakeland and Waldorf. "I was really impressed with the way our teams supported each other," Cushard said. "This was the first time we've done a dual with both the women's and men's teams. It was great to see them rooting for each other. We really fed off of the energy it provided."
Cushard said his team will need to bring the same high level of energy and support for each other to be successful at Brock. "We've spent the last two weeks pushing hard in our training with two and even three a day training sessions," he said. "That's a luxury we've had since classes aren't in session yet. After this tournament we'll cut back on the hard training and work on fine tuning for these last four weeks before the WCWA Nationals. Our goal is to be our most prepared, most healthy and peak for that."
The Bulldogs will follow up Saturday with a final home competition on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Adrian will honor Seniors Haylee McCoy and Autumn Rux when it hosts Tiffin in a 6 p.m. dual at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center.
