ADRIAN, Mich.-- Adrian College presented its students, alumni and the community a gift to remember on Christmas Day--a new live mascot Bulldog puppy, Bruiser II.
Following the passing of the College’s beloved first live mascot, Bruiser I, on Nov. 17, Adrian College adopted the new Bulldog puppy. Subsequent to a week of social media campaigning which built up anticipation for the announcement of “the best gift ever,” Bruiser was announced on Christmas Day. He was received well and the Adrian College community is excited to welcome him to campus.
The ten-week-old, 15-pound puppy with large paws and a wrinkly nose will take on the responsibilities so admirably performed formerly by his predecessor, turning away shots between periods at hockey games, delivering the game ball at football games, wishing graduates good luck at AC commencement, riding in the Homecoming parade and greeting students on his walks around campus. Bruiser will be introduced formally to the students during a meet and greet session in the Caine Student Center the week of Jan. 8.
Adrian College President Jeffrey Docking is excited to have this gift to give to Adrian College students and the local community. “We are so fortunate to have a live mascot who is so loved by all. Bruiser brings together students, faculty, children, and dog lovers from near and far to join together to root for our teams and student groups,” Docking said. “Bruiser is a winner! Just like the students who graduate from Adrian College.”
Bruiser will be cared for by Janine Grier, who has been the original caregiver for Bruiser.
Janine quoted Erica Jong when reflecting on Bruiser, saying “dogs come into our lives to teach us about love. They depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart.” She added, “I’m honored to help carry on the Bruiser legacy! I can’t wait for everyone to meet this Bruiser. He’s going to be quite the ‘boy’!”
The new live mascot for the College will ring in the New Year and bring excitement to campus as students return from winter break, as classes begin on Monday.
