ADRIAN, Mich.--The playing surface of Adrian College's multi-million dollar Docking Stadium is getting a facelift this summer. This will mark the first enhancement to the Stadium since the multi-use facility's construction in 2006. Adrian Athletics is partnering with AstroTurf Corporation--headquartered in Dalton, Ga.--on the project, which began on June 23rd and is expected to be completed within 21 days.

Later this summer, the College's Media House will produce a series of videos depicting the new turf construction project.

Adrian College Bulldogs teams in football, men's and women's lacrosse and women's and men's soccer have enjoyed calling one of the best stadiums in NCAA Division III home. Docking Stadium also served as the preseason tour site of the world-famous

The $6.5 million dollar masterpiece was completed in time for the beginning of the 2006 season. The stadium was named for current president Dr. Jeffrey R. Docking on October 12, 2013. The football team has enjoyed a .700 winning percentage since the stadium opened. Men's Soccer hosted its first-ever Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament game last fall en route to a historic 2017 campaign. Men's and Women's Lacrosse have combined to capture eight MIAA championships and earn the same number of NCAA Tournament bids. Women's Soccer saw the program having its best season in 2017 since winning the 2011 MIAA crown.

The stadium seats approximately 3,000 fans with 2,500 chairback seats on the home side and an additional 500 bleacher seats on the visitor side. Features include state-of-the-art AstroTurf, stadium lighting, a fully-wired press box, and an end-zone section for student seating. In addition, there is the James F. Thomas Pavilion which is used for a variety of events including alumni gatherings on football game-days.

The funds for the original Stadium project were raised through the Adrian College Development Office. Architectural services were provided by Hastings & Chivetta, an industry leader in higher education facilities, and the same firm that designed the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center on campus. Construction management was provided by the Douglas Company.

Adrian athletics director Michael Duffy stated: "We have some of the premier facilities in NCAA Division III as Docking Stadium is a "crown jewel". We are excited to partner with AstroTurf, which is considered a leader in the industry of providing excellent fields for high school, college and professional teams. This is a commitment to our teams and student-athletes that use Docking Stadium, which experiences a lot of wear and tear."
