FREELAND, Mich. –The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Wednesday (July 25) the list of 1,293 student-athletes from the conference’s nine member institutions recognized to the 2017-18 MIAA Academic Honor Roll. Not only is the total of 1,293 a record for the conference, the total marks the third consecutive year the total of honorees surpassed 1,200 student-athletes.

And for the third-consecutive year, Adrian College has increased its total of academic all-conference honorees. The Bulldogs totaled 128 for 2017-18 after reaching 112 last season and 92 for the 2015-16 school year.

To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year and earn a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport.

The following were double-winners for the Bulldogs, all representing indoor/outdoor track & field (with GPA, hometown and high school): Clayton Lange, 3.86, Whitemore, Mich. (Whitemore-Prescott); Joshua Pascoe-Davison, 3.84, Leicetershire, Mich. (Mancelona); Gabriel Lopez, 3.79, Tecumseh, Mich.; Taylor Sinclair, 3.90, Olivet, Mich.; Emily Nixon, 3.90, Mancelona, Mich.; Olivia Vasiloff, 3.80, Vermilion, Ohio (Lutheran West); Rayona Hart-Wilson, 3.68, Coloma, Mich.; Kyla Sovran (of Women's Soccer, too), 3.64, Belle River, Ontario (St Anne's); Chantel Edwards, 3.57, Pontiac, Mich. (Waterford Mott); Dakota Morgan, 3.57, Interlochen, Mich. (Grand Traverse Academy).

Twelve Adrian student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0, including Women's Soccer's Colleen Cater, Cassidy Conner, Kristin Conner, Angela Davis, Kristen Page, Allyse Zondlak; Baseball's Spencer Lash, Sean Millspaugh; Carly Thomas, Alexandra Tobler, both from Women's Volleyball; Football's Robert Ginther; and Paige VanAtta of Softball.

Led by longtime head coach Ali Alamdari, Women's Soccer once again led Adrian teams with 18 Academic All-MIAA performers. They were followed by Football (Jim Deere) and Softball (Ashley Marinacci) with 14 each, Baseball (Craig Rainey) and Women's Volleyball (David Kwan) with 12 apiece; and Men's Soccer (Charlie Edwards) had 11. Women's Soccer (3.78) also had the highest GPA among Bulldogs' teams affiliated with the conference.

Hope had the highest total of MIAA Academic Honor Roll selections with 254, an increase of 52 from the previous year; Calvin (168), Albion (165), and Trine (157) were second, third, and fourth, respectively.

Of the 1,293 student-athletes recognized, 113 achieved a 4.0 in 2017-18, with 24 of those lettering in more than one sport. Of the total, 225 were multi-sport athletes, including 84 that earned a varsity letter in three sports in 2017-18.

Among other Bulldog highlights: women's golf senior Elizabeth Barrett (St. Clair, Mich.) repeated as a Women’s Golf Coaches Association Scholar All-American; junior men's golfer Andrew Skibski (Monroe, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central High School) earned Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar recognition; senior pitcher Tommy Parsons (New Albany, Ohio) became the College's first baseball player since 1995 to win Google Cloud Academic All-America® Third Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America; and Women's Volleyball was an American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 Academic Team squad.
