ADRIAN, Mich. - Zakia Houston is excited to bring her enthusiasm and years of experience in dance, competitive cheer and Acrobatics and Tumbling to the Adrian Bulldogs as an assistant coach. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology at the University of Oregon. Additionally, she was chosen to be a part of a series of leadership development through workshops and various forms of teaching including role play, lecture, and experiential education.
A native of San Jose, California, Zakia has competitively danced since she was 6, been a level 5 competitive cheerleader since she was 10 and was instrumental in leading the University of Oregon Ducks to four NCATA national championships during her tenure. Zakia successfully choreographed University of Oregon dance section in the Acrobatics and Tumbling team routine all four years.
Through her community activities, she was chosen as one of 20 student-athlete volunteers to go to Casa Blanca, Peru to build a multi-use court, which provides a safe community space for kids, and community hosted events. Zakia was a cheer and dance instructor for JAMZ, private tumbling coach at Nor*Cal elite all-stars, and gymnastics coach at West Valley Gymnastics.
