PITTSBURGH--The Adrian College club baseball on Wednesday swept the Northern Plains East Region Conference weekly awards as senior Mark Cash (Belleville, Mich./New Boston Huron High School) is the NPERC Pitcher of the Week and junior David Chavez (Trenton, Mich./Trenton HS) is the NPERC Player of the Week.
Cash receives the honor for the third time this season (also on Nov. 8, 2018, and Oct. 3, 2018) and first in the spring. He continues to be the ace of the Bulldogs pitching staff after starting the spring season opener against Toledo to kick off a three-game series at home. He threw a complete-game, four-hitter as Adrian routed the Rockets 13-1 in a contest shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. He walked only one batter and struck out seven, improving his record to 4-0 and lowering his earned-run average to a miniscule 0.41.
As a first-time recipient, Chavez was a force at the plate in his season debut in the batting lineup as Adrian also defeated Toledo 10-7 and 7-1 to complete the sweep. He batted .444 (4-for-9) with seven runs batted in over three contests. He had two extra-base hits with a double and triple, scored three runs, got two walks and added a stolen base.
Adrian hits the field again on Saturday for a non-conference twinbill at Eastern Michigan, starting at 1 p.m.
