ADRIAN, Mich.--Brent Greenwood, the head coach of the 2018 National Club Baseball Association Division 3 World Series champion Adrian College Bulldogs, has announced that his program is moving up a rung to the Division 2 level of the NCBA organization, effective for the 2018-19 season.
Adrian will now compete in the Northern Plains East Region Conference, which includes opponents Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State, Toledo, Ohio State and Ferris State. NCBA Division 2 rules also permit the Bulldogs to expand their roster from 30 to 33 student-athletes.
"I am extremely excited to challenge our guys by moving up to Division 2 this year," Greenwood said. "We are returning the majority of our starting lineup which is always a plus. We did lose a few key components from last year's team but we have underclassmen that are ready to step up and take on those roles."
The Bulldogs club baseball program will begin its second season at the Battle Creek Blast again on Sep. 21-23, when Adrian will be part of a field that includes Division 2 Illinois State, Xavier-Ohio, Grand Valley State, Toledo, Michigan, Central Michigan, Bowling Green, Indiana, Ferris State, Pittsburgh and Eastern Michigan.
In Year 1, Adrian finished 22-5 overall, 11-0 in NCBA District II West Conference play, defeated Edinboro for the district title and won a NCBA D3 national championship by outscoring the opposition 17-0 at the NBCA World Series in Dubois, Pa.
Rising senior infielder Jordon Ham added, "All of our guys that are returning are excited to face better and more reliable competition. It gives us a new challenge heading into our second season after all of the success we had last year."
