ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College’s intercollegiate figure skating team put up 128 points for a first-place finish at the 2016 Bulldog Classic on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2, held at Arrington Ice Arena. The Bulldogs defeated Miami-Ohio (82.5), Michigan (64, Northern Michigan (23.5), Minnesota-Duluth (18), Wisconsin-Madison (18), Michigan State (15), Oakland (15), Ferris State (11) and Notre Dame (0).
“I am so honored and proud to be coaching the team I once skated for as a student-athlete," Tricia DeFelice explained in her first outing as the Bulldogs' head coach. "Standing rink-side, I truly felt the support of the college and our community. It gave us extra energy to perform our very best."
The highlight of the competition was 17 first-place finishes by 14 Bulldogs in the following events:
Novice Short (Macauley Lukenda), Junior Short (Casey Labrenz), Senior Men’s Short (Alex DiCola), Preliminary Freeskate (Sarah Bittorf), Pre-Juvenile Freeskate (Barbara Hipp), Juvenile Freeskate (Ciara Athy), Intermediate Freeskate (Hanna Arntsen), Novice Freeskate (Olivia Margulis), Junior Freeskate (Casey Labrenz), Junior Championship Freeskate (Nikki Czuhajewski), Senior Freeskate (Lila Werner), Juvenile Dance (Megan Ewald), Intermediate Dance (Alex DiCola), Novice Dance (Sarah Hollister), Junior Dance (Jordan Golomb), Senior Dance (Nikki Czuhajewski), and Gold Dance Group A (Jenna Blackburn).
Of Adrian’s 35 competitive starts, 28 were medal-earners in their respective categories.
The highest point earners for the team were Czuhajewski (15), India Johnson (13), and Labrenz (9).
Adrian College has won 12 consecutive Midwestern competitions.
The second competition of the Midwestern Conference schedule is the 2016 Maize and Blue Matchup on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16, hosted by University of Michigan at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor.
