LEBANON, Ill.--The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 women's hockey team traveled to McKendree University this weekend and picked up a pair of victories over the Bearcats with wins of 3-2 in overtime and 7-1.
Taylor Murcek scored the game winning goal 1 minute and 36 seconds into the overtime period on Friday night, as the Bulldogs halted a Bearcat comeback attempt that saw Adrian surrender the final two goals in regulation to force the extra session.
Adrian jumped to a 2-0 lead in the contest, as Britt Levasseur scored an unassisted marker for the only goal of the first forty minutes and Maddie Arnold connected in the first minute of the third period for the Bulldogs with an assist from Danica Polson.
McKendree then fought back to tie the score on goals by Jana Garrow and Allison Sauvola to force overtime. But the Bulldogs ended the proceedings when Jessie Rushing found Murcek for the game winner to give Adrian the victory.
Things came a little easier on Saturday, as the Bulldogs pounded out seven unanswered goals after the Bearcats had taken a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Dakota Peterson. The Bulldogs spread the puck around with seven different players finding the back of the net, starting with second period goals by Kallie Hardy and Levasseur to put Adrian up 2-1 after two periods.
The game’s final twenty minutes were all Bulldogs, however, as Adrian scored five times, getting goals from Arnold, Olivia Ziemba, Polson, Murcek and Kirstin LaBelle to make the final score 7-1.
Allison Dungey picked up both wins in goal for Adrian, making 23 saves in each contest, as Adrian pushed their record to 19-1-1 for the year.
The Bulldogs return home next week to host the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday with game times set for 3 p.m. on Friday and a 7 p.m. faceoff on Saturday.
