ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College director of athletics Michael Duffy has announced that former Bulldog hockey student-athlete Hannah Griffin '13 will be the new head coach for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 women's program.
"It is an honor to bring back such an established alumna to the position of ACHA D1 coach. Hannah has been associated with Adrian Hockey for the past several years as a valuable assistant coach with this program," Duffy stated. "Her professionalism and organization will be great attributes for this already top program.
"We look forward to Hannah taking the next step with this program. She was a fierce, hard-working competitor in her playing days on the NCAA and club teams here at Adrian. She has carried those attributes over into her professional career. No one will out-work Hannah in anything she does. It is exciting to have her on staff directing our club program."
As a former volunteer assistant coach for the ACHAWD1 team, Griffin helped the Bulldogs to a 76-12-3 overall record, back-to-back sweeps of the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association regular-season and tournament championships and two "final four" ACHA Tournament appearances including the national championship game in 2018. She assisted head coach Brett Berger in all team functions including game and practice preparations, gameday management, recruiting, player meetings, in-game strategy and video breakdown. In addition, she was the acting head coach when Berger attended the USA Hockey World University Games during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In 2016-17, Bulldog coaches were cited the ACHA Division 1 Staff of the Year after Adrian finished third in the nation, 26-5 overall and 14-0 for its first unbeaten, untied CCWHA campaign.
Griffin also has experience as an instructor for the Bulldog Youth Hockey Camp, leading children ages 4-13 in fundamentals
Griffin, of Lakewood, Colo., skated for three years on the Bulldogs' varsity NCAA Division III team and then for the inaugural ACHAWD1 squad in 2012-13. She helped the NCAA team to a 2011 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association championship and served as the ACHA captain for her 2012-13 senior season.
Griffin was graduated from the College with a bachelor of arts degree in business management in 2013.
