ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College's American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's program is proud to announce that senior forward Rainer Glimpel (Calgary, Alberta/Osoyoos Coyotes KIJHL) has been named team captain for the 2019-20 season.
Glimpel served as an alternate captain in 2018-19. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Canadian has been a vital part of the team's previous success the last three years that includes a 100-7 overall record, three top-10 year-end national rankings, three Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League regular-season titles, two GLCHL postseason crowns and an ACHA national championship.
"Rainer is a 'lead-by-example' type of player," stated Adrian head coach Gary Astalos, who just wrapped up his third season at the helm. "He does a great job showing the younger players how to play the game the right way. It's also pretty special to know Rainer was a part of my first recruiting class here at the college; to see him grow and develop into not only a leader of our team, but more importantly, our campus community is pretty special. We could not be happier to have him wear the "C" for us next year."
The accounting major--who is currently working a summer internship with a hometown Calgary firm --is referred to as a skilled, but gritty forward who has logged 105 games in his first three years while tallying 54 goals and 72 assists for 126 total points. While his offensive numbers are noticeably high, Glimpel is known for having extremely high IQ as he can fill any role the team needs to be successful.
Glimpel will lead a group that only had three graduating seniors off last year's squad that swept the GLCHL regular-season and playoff championships, went 33-3 on the season and 14-0 in conference play.
The team will announce its assistant captains after training camp in early September.
