ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Adrian College track and field team competed in the Golden Grizzlies Invite on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 against schools from all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, and junior colleges. The men had a strong showing, coming in sixth place with 42 team points.
MEN'S TOP PERFORMANCES
Sophomores Marcus Higginbottom and Donovan Ervin picked up team points in the 100-meter dash, finishing in fourth and seventh, respectively. The two only finished 0.07 seconds apart from each other, with Higginbottom running an 11.12 and Ervin an 11.19 Senior Randy Fry picked up four more team points in the 200-meter dash, finishing in fourth place with a time of 22.06, moving him into first place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
Sophomore Idris Daranijoh picked up two points with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, setting a PR with his time of 16.27. He then came in sixth place in the 400-meter hurdles while senior Jordan Davis took second with his time of 55.19, giving the Black and Gold nine total team points in the event. Davis now owns the fasted time in the 400-meter hurdles in the MIAA.
Sophomores Nicholas Jackson and Daz Lawrence totaled 18 team points between the two of them in the high jump, finishing 1-2. Jackson matched Lawrence's season best mark of 6'9" from last week to win the event while Lawrence came in second place with a height of 6'8".
Freshman Brandon Varner finished just outside of scoring in the hammer throw, but set a PR with his distance of 125'9".
WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMANCES
Adrian had three top-10 finishes on the women's side that finished outside of scoring a team point. Freshman Torrie Summers ran a 16.52 in the 100-meter hurdles for ninth place and senior Rayona Hart-Wilson finished in eighth place in the long jump with a distance of 16'10.5" Freshman Chantel Edwards was the third top-10 finish, finishing eighth in the shot put with a distance of 32'2".
Sophomore Taylor Sinclair finished in 14th place in the 200-meters but set a PR with her time of 26.24, putting her in fourth place in the MIAA.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday, April 18, right here in Adrian when they compete at the Don Kleinow Invitational, hosted by Siena Heights.
