HAVRE De GRACE, Md.--The Adrian College bass fishing team schooled the field at the 2019 Fishing League Worldwide Northern Conference Event #2 field here at Chesapeake Bay over the weekend, earning places of first, fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth out of 49 total boats.
"Huge congratulations to two of my seniors in Ryan and Brandon who stayed the course, finished their degrees, and are closing their collegiate careers out on a high note," stated Adrian coach Seth Borton, the only coach for the five-year program. "They are true team players who have showed out in the last several events. I could not be more proud of them. What a day for both-- one you will never forget--as well as for all our guys."
Also placing in the top-10 for the Bulldogs were: No. 4 senior Jack Hippe/rising sophomore Griffin Fernandes with a five-fish catch of 18-14, fifth-place rising seniors Blake Johnson/Myles Jackman (18-1), No. 8 rising senior Alex Henderson/senior Chase Serafin (16-2) and rising junior Jarrod Layton/rising sophomore Matt Davis who ninth at 16-1.
As a result, Adrian now has seven qualifying boats for next year's national championships--a program record.
Next up, Adrian qualifiers will be competing at the FLW Collegiate National Championships on the Potomac River at Smallwood State Park in Marbury, Md., from Tuesday to Thursday, June 4-6. The AC pairings are Henderson/rising senior John Franko, Serafin/rising senior Cody Batterson, graduate students Jarrett Martin/Nick Marsh, rising senior Zach Graham/Jackman, Hippe/senior Nick Czajka and Sharnas/Herzberg.
