Adrian Faces Wooster in NCAA Mideast Regional

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College baseball team will enter the 2012 NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Wednesday, May 16 with a great deal of momentum after a convincing run through the 2012 MIAA Tournament. The Bulldogs outscored their three conference tournament opponents by a 28-6 margin including a 17-2 win over Hope College in the tournament final on Friday, May 11. It was the first-ever MIAA Tournament with the automatic bid going to the champion. The Bulldogs (35-8) also won the regular season title with a 24-4 record. It will be the fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance for Adrian and the third straight trip to Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

The Bulldogs will be the third-seed in the upcoming Mideast Regional and will face sixth-seeded College of Wooster (27-16). The Fighting Scots finished tied for third (11-5) in the North Coast Athletic Conference during the regular season and earned the NCAC automatic bid by winning the conference tournament. Wooster defeated DePauw (4-1) and Ohio Wesleyan (6-2) in the first two games and then fell to DePauw (6-3) setting up a winner-take-all championship game. The Fighting Scots scored an 8-6 win over the Tigers in Chillicothe, Ohio to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs and Fighting Scots have played five times with Wooster winning four of those contests. The Bulldogs won 4-3 on May 14, 2008 en route to their Mideast Regional championship in Terre Haute. The last meeting was at Nicolay Field during the 2009 Mideast Regional as Wooster prevailed 8-2 back on May 17, 2009.

The Bulldogs have played just one game against the NCAA Tournament field of 56 teams this season.
