MARIETTA, Ohio - The Bulldog baseball team picked an unfortunate time to play one of their sloppiest games of the season on Thursday night as they fell 13-7 to Manchester (Ind.) College in their second game of the 2012 NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by Marietta College at Don Schaly Stadium. The Bulldogs (36-9) had two rough innings in which they gave up four runs a piece and the Spartans (27-19) forced Adrian to the brink of elimination.

The ball game was very even heading into the middle innings and then Manchester capitalized on several miscues by Adrian. The Bulldogs led 4-2 after four and a half innings and then the Spartans scored twice to tie the game at 4-4 after five innings. Adrian regained the lead at 5-4 in the top of the sixth but then Manchester scored eight straight runs to take a 12-5 lead after seven innings.

Adrian cut the lead to 12-7 and stranded two runners on base in the eighth and then the Spartans pushed across one more final run in the home half of the eighth for the final tally.

Sophomore Rylie Robinson had a shaky outing in his first regional start. He plunked a career-high five batters after coming into the game with just three hit batsmen all season. He also uncorked two wild pitches and also balked in his 5.1 innings. Robinson gave up six hits and five earned runs (seven total) with two walks and four strikeouts.

Senior Sean Hartman had little success in relief going 0.2 innings and allowing three hits, four runs (two earned), no walks and no strikeouts. Senior Craig Steadman finished up with two innings and gave up three hits but no earned runs (two total) with a walk and strikeout.

Kyle Konarski improved to 5-4 on the mound going 7.1 innings and allowed 13 hits with five earned runs. He walked one and struck out six before giving way to Bryce Murphy. Murphy jogged onto the mound from right field in the eighth and then struck out four including the side in the ninth to close out the win for Manchester.

Sophomore R.J. Rios set new career-highs with three runs and three hits for the Bulldogs. He collected a double in the game hitting fifth in the lineup. Garrett Green went 2-for-5 in the third spot of the lineup. Catcher Jamey Sackett had a big night with a triple and three RBI's while also scoring twice. Eight of the nine starters had a hit for the Bulldogs as they outhit the Spartans 13-12.

The loss puts Adrian in a tough spot moving forward. Adrian will face elimination tomorrow against eighth-seeded La Roche at 1:00 PM. If they win, they will square off with either top-seeded Marietta or second-seeded Washington and Jefferson at 8:00 PM.
