The Adrian College baseball team dropped to 1-2 overall after a 5-3 loss to Muskingum University on Wednesday in Port Charlotte.
Brent Greenwood and Alex VanDine locked up in a pitcher's duel with a scoreless game through five innings. Each guy went six innings with Greenwood getting the hook after six complete. VanDike pitched into the seventh. Greenwood gave Adrian the quality start they need allowing five hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts. VanDine silenced Adrian's bats with 10 strikeouts and just one earned run. VanDine left with a 2-1 deficit but Dylan Davy wrapped things up for Muskingum allowing three hits and one earned run over the final 2.1 innings.
The same could not be said for Adrian as senior Lucas Willitzer gave up four earned runs in the seventh on five hits. Willitzer (0-1) did strike out a batter but left the game with a 5-2 disadvantage. Adrian managed one run in the ninth but the rally fell short.
Sam Fischer, Garrett Green and R.J. Rios each had two hits as Adrian totaled nine hits. Green, Rios and Cody Meyer each also had an RBI. Adrian managed just one extra-base hit which was a double. The team has a travel day tomorrow to Alabama where they will conclude their spring trip with games against Huntingdon (8-5), Illinois Wesleyan (0-0) and Birmingham Southern (10-3).
