Bulldogs Continue Dominance over Alma

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College baseball team finished a Game 2 win from Saturday and then took two more on Sunday at home against the Alma College Scots to increase their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association lead to five games. The Bulldogs have a 14-2 record in league play followed by Calvin and Hope (9-7) and Alma (8-8).

The Bulldogs posted 20 wins with this weekend's four-game sweep of the Scots and in the process have defeated them 24 straight times on the diamond. Adrian and Alma picked up where they left off from Saturday's Game 2 which was suspended in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs led 2-0 with a pair of runs in the opening inning and then plated three more in the fifth to earn a 5-0 win.

Rylie Robinson tossed a gem throwing three innings of no-hit ball on Saturday and then coming back today with four more scoreless innings for his second shutout of the season. Robinson improved to 5-0 with his fourth complete game allowing three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Colin Nash also went seven innings allowing just one earned run with four walks and five strikeouts for Alma.

Ryan Dorow, Mitch Stefanski, Drew Shutes and Dan Heatherly each had two hits with Dorow collecting his 11th double, Stefanski his eighth double and Shutes his ninth double. All four of these players also had a RBI for the Bulldogs.

Adrian built a commanding 12-2 lead in Game 1 on Sunday and held on for a 12-7 win after the Scots scored five times in the seventh. Adrian scored six times in the first off six hits as Sam Fischer led off with a home run which was his fifth of the season. Shutes had a RBI single in the inning as did R.J. Rios after a 10-pitch at-bat. Heatherly slugged a RBI double and Ben Yax had a two-out single which scored two Bulldogs.

Adrian scored twice more in the third inning to take an 8-0 lead. The Bulldogs loaded the bases with no outs and scored on a wild pitch. Yax also had a RBI groundout which scored Heatherly after he reached on a single. The Bulldogs chased starter Eric Strickler in the fourth inning with another run. Strickler gave up nine earned runs in 3.1 innings and saw his earned run average raise to 6.50 in the process.

Brent Greenwood tossed six innings and allowed six hits improving to 3-1 on the hill. He gave up just one earned run with a walk and three strikeouts. The Bulldogs pounded out 11 hits in Game 1 as Heatherly went 2-for-2 with his sixth double and two runs scored. The reigning MIAA Position Player of the Year went 7-for-11 (.636) in the series and raised his season batting average to .277.

The Bulldogs took Game 2 by the final score of 4-0 behind a combined shutout from Holden Branch and Tommy Eng. Branch threw 100 pitches (59 strikes) in six innings improving to 4-0. He yielded three hits with three walks and three punchouts. Eng threw 13 pitches in the seventh while striking out one. The top five batters for Alma in Game 2 went a combined 0-for-12.

Dorow belted his 12th double of the season for Adrian's only extra-base hit in Game 2. He went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Stefanski stole his sixth base of the season and went 2-for-4 with two RBI. He is currently batting .402 this season. Heatherly reached base three times in Game 2 with a single and two walks.
