ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian outfielder Sam Fischer its Position Player of the Week and Adrian righthander Holden Branch its Pitcher of the Week for games played through April 19.
Fischer, a senior from Monclova, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS), hit .750 (12-for-16), including hits in nine consecutive at-bats, and had a slugging percentage of 1.125 as the MIAA-leading Bulldogs took three out of four in a weekend series with Trine. He had back-to-back 4-for-4 performances in wins over the Thunder, 10-3 and 9-0. Fischer had six doubles, scored six runs, batted in five and stole three bases for the series. He also handled 15 putouts without an error. Fischer, who is being honored as Position Player of the Week for the first time in his career, currently leads the MIAA in hits (29), runs (24), home runs (4) and total bases (52).
Branch, a senior from Onsted (Onsted HS), fired a four-hit complete game shutout in pitching Adrian to a 9-0 win over Trine on Saturday. He walked one and struck out two in the game. Branch is 4-0 in the MIAA this spring and leads the conference in earned run average at 1.16 (4 ER in 31 innings pitched). He is being honored as Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career.
