ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College baseball team had another successful season in 2014 and had four players honored as all-region selections by D3Baseball.com and three players by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The Bulldogs captured its sixth straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season championship and third straight MIAA Tournament title. In addition, the team finished with a 33-15 record and were NCAA Midwest Regional runner-up picking up three wins.
Freshman infielder Ryan Dorow (South Haven, Mich./South Haven H.S.) turned in one of the best seasons in school history regardless of class and was named First Team All-Mideast Region by D3Baseball.com and the ABCA. In addition, Dorow was selected as the Mideast Rookie of the Year by D3Baseball.com. Dorow earned the MIAA Most Valuable Position Player of the Year award, a first for a freshman, and batted .500 (10-for-20) in the Midwest Regional a week ago. He was named to the Midwest Regional All-Tournament team for his prowess at the plate and in the field at shortstop. Dorow finished the season with a .392 batting average (67-for-171) including 21 doubles, a triple and five home runs. He also drove in 40 runs and posted a .459 on-base percentage. Dorow ranks first in a season at Adrian College in doubles, third in assists (129), tied for third in hits, tied for fifth in total bases (105) and tied for 10th in RBI.
Senior pitcher Holden Branch (Onsted, Mich./Onsted H.S.) was named First Team All-Region by the ABCA and Second Team All-Region by D3Baseball.com. Branch posted a 8-0 record with a 2.45 earned run average this season in 66 innings. He made 10 starts and threw three complete games. Branch allowed just 54 hits while walking 21 and striking out 25. He limited the opponents to a .226 batting average while on the mound for the Bulldogs. This season, he ranked tied for fifth in school history in wins and was ninth in opponents batting average. For his career, Branch ranks second all-time at AC with a 2.51 earned run average and a .222 opponent batting average.
Senior infielder Mitch Stefanski (Oxford, Mich./Oxford H.S.) was named Second Team All-Region by D3Baseball.com and Third Team All-Region by the ABCA. Stefanski leaves Adrian among the best in school history in several categories. He is the all-time leader in triples (18) and also ranks third in slugging percentage (.579) and on-base percentage (.463). Stefanski also ranks fourth in being hit by a pitch (34), tied for sixth in home runs (12), seventh in walks (65), tied for eighth in runs (110) and tied for ninth in stolen bases (29). This season, he batted .361 (56-for-155) with 10 doubles, nine triples and five home runs. He scored 46 times and also drove in 42 runs. He owns the school single-season record for triples this season and also ranks second in hit by pitch (16), tied for fourth in runs, eighth in slugging percentage (.639) and eighth in RBI.
Senior outfielder Sam Fischer (Monclova, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) was named Third Team All-Region by D3Baseball.com. Fischer batted .351 (61-for-174) this season with 50 runs scored and 41 RBI. He started in all 48 games in center for the Bulldogs and collected 18 doubles, two triples and a team-best six home runs. He also ranked second on the team with 101 total bases and sported a .460 on-base percentage with 33 walks and five hit by pitch. Fischer's 2014 season puts him second for a single season at AC in walks, tied for second in at-bats, tied for second in doubles, third in runs scored, eighth in hits, ninth in RBI and ninth in total bases. For his career, Fischer ranks second in walks (86), third in doubles (46), third in triples (12), third in total bases (299), fourth in slugging (.571), fourth in runs (140), fourth in home runs (17), fifth in stolen bases (34), sixth in on-base percentage (.446), seventh in RBI (112), seventh in hits (178) and eighth in at-bats (524).
