FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian designated hitter Miccoy Drzewiecki its Position Player of the Week and Adrian righthander Eric Schmidt its Pitcher of the Week in baseball for games played through April 12.
Position Player of the Week
Drzewiecki, a sophomore from Toledo, Ohio (St. Francis de Sales HS), hit .643 (9-for-14) with two doubles and six RBI as Adrian swept a four-game series from Alma to solidify its hold on first place in the MIAA. He had at least two hits in all four games, and went 3-for-3 with a double and knocked in three runs as the Bulldogs completed the series sweep with a 19-6 win over the Scots. Drzewiecki, who currently leads the MIAA in hitting with a .488 average in conference play, is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
Pitcher of the Week
Schmidt, a senior from Blissfield (Blissfield HS), fired a one-hit shutout and struck out 10 as Adrian defeated Alma, 8-0, in the opening game of a weekend series with the Scots. He came within one strike of throwing a no-hitter before allowing an infield single with two out in the seventh. Schmidt is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
