FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Adrian righthander Eric Schmidt its Pitcher of the Week in baseball for games played through May 3.
Schmidt, a senior from Blissfield (Blissfield HS), threw 6-2/3 innings of three-hit shutout ball, striking out five and walking one, as Adrian blanked Calvin 9-0 to clinch the outright MIAA championship. The win was the 29th of Schmidt's career, an Adrian school record. He is 6-0 in MIAA play this season with a 2.31 earned run average and a conference-leading 43 strikeouts in 46-2/3 innings pitched. Schmidt is being honored as Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.
