ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College baseball team had four players named to the D3Baseball.com and ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) All-Mideast Region teams on Monday. Senior Eric Schmidt and sophomore Ryan Dorow were named First Team. Juniors Jeff Gertley and Jordan Frayer were both Third Team members for the Bulldogs by D3Baseball.com, while Gertley was named Second Team by the ABCA. Adrian completed their season 33-12 a week ago.
Schmidt posted a 9-2 record this season with a 2.38 earned run average in 87 innings. His 87 innings logged in the second-most in a season at Adrian and his nine wins ties for third. Schmidt was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-MIAA this season. He finishes his career with a 30-5 record, 2.79 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 261.2 innings. He ranks first in wins, second in starts (41), third in innings, tied for fourth in complete games (14) and fifth in ERA at Adrian College.
Dorow has started in 90 games over the past two seasons and followed up a banner rookie season with impressive numbers this year. He batted .383 with 59 hits in 154 at-bats. Dorow scored 43 runs while collecting 13 doubles, two triples and 10 home runs. He drove in 38 runs and had a .688 slugging percentage. Dorow drew 21 walks and had a .464 on-base percentage. After two seasons, he ranks second in career batting average (.388), third in slugging percentage (.649), fifth in on-base percentage (.462) and fifth in home runs (15).
Gertley posted career numbers this season and was recently named to the Mideast Regional All-Tournament Team. He batted .358 with 53 hits in 148 at-bats. In his previous two seasons combined he had 24 hits and 77 at-bats for the Bulldogs. Gertley scored 39 runs while recording 19 doubles, two triples and 11 home runs with 48 RBI. He tied the single-season home run mark and his doubles total ranks second at Adrian. His 109 total bases is tied for second in a season and his .736 slugging percentage and RBI total ranks fourth. Gertley also performed well in center field with 80 putouts and a .988 fielding percentage.
Frayer posted a 7-2 record with a 2.40 earned run average in 71.1 innings of work this season. He made 12 starts and threw four complete games with 42 strikeouts and a .221 opponent batting average. Frayer allowed just 59 hits (13 extra-base hits) this season and 17 walks.
