Otterbein Stymies @AdrianBaseball Bats in Non-League Action, 4-0

WESTERVILLE, Ohio—Four Otterbein University pitchers combined to shut down a recent potent Adrian College offense for a 4-0 non-conference win in baseball action on Wednesday.

= Final Scoreline: Adrian 0-6-1, Otterbein 4-7-3

= Location: Fishbaugh Field, Westerville, Ohio; Weather: Cloudy, 61 F, Wind SW 16 mph

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 4-5, Otterbein Cardinals 13-3

= Senior Josh Knorr was one of six Bulldogs with a hit, connecting for a double.

= Sophomore pitcher Dillon Kelley made his season debut on the mound after helping the Bulldogs NCAA hockey team to a sweep of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association championships and Division III quarterfinals appearance. He pitched 2/3 innings of scoreless innings, inheriting a runner at second base.

= Junior Kyle Shepherd started his second game on the hill for the Bulldogs, pitching effectively for three scoreless innings. He gave up just two hits.

= Four Cardinals pitchers combined for a six-hitter and shut out the visiting Bulldogs.

= After five scoreless innings, Otterbein got all the offense it needed in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Kent hit a two-run home run to left field.

= Trailing by only that two-run margin, Adrian had a golden opportunity to score in its next half inning by loading the bases with no outs. To open the seventh, junior Miccoy Drzewiecki singled, senior Matt Andrus walked and sophomore Frank Resto reached on an error. But the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize and didn't score, as relievers Jeff Peters and KC Brown escaped the jam.

= Otterbein added an unearned run in the seventh and another tally in the eighth for insurance.

= The Cardinals outhit the Bulldogs, 7-6. Adrian stranded seven runners on base.

= Kent finished with two hits, adding a triple, and two runs scored.

Mark Walton contributed a pinch-hit double.

= Starting pitcher Jordon Mally (3-0) got the win, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out two in six scoreless innings.

= This marked the first meeting between the schools on the diamond since 2010, as the Cardinals now lead the all-time series 4-0.

= In their previous two contests, Adrian generated 27 runs on 19 hits (8 for extra-bases) and 23 walks.

= Adrian opens up Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play this weekend against Olivet College. The four-game series begins Friday at Olivet (2/4:30 p.m.) and shifts to Adrian the following day (1/3:30 p.m.) as the Bulldogs make their home debut at Nicolay Field.
