@AdrianBaseball Completes Four-Game MIAA Sweep of Olivet with Another Doubleheader Win

OLIVET, Mich.--The Adrian College baseball team completed a four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association weekend series sweep on Saturday at Olivet College with wins of 12-1 and 5-0.

THE BASICS
= Final Scoreline, Game 1: Adrian 12-8-1, Olivet 1-3-3

= Final Scoreline, Game 2: Adrian 5-9-3, Olivet 0-5-2

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 8-5 overall (4-0 MIAA), Olivet Comets 3-9 (0-4)

FOR ADRIAN
= Second-game starter junior Kyle Shepherd got the win (1-0), pitching six scoreless innings of four-hit baseball. He struck out two and walked one batter.

= Senior Josh Knorr was 3-for-5 with three walks and three runs scored on the day.

= Junior Ian Mikowski continued his huge weekend by going 4-for-7 in the two games. He also scored four times and walked twice.

= In the doubleheader, the Bulldogs scored 17 runs, drew 14 walks and had 17 hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME ONE
= Junior Ryan Dorow had five runs batted in on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, an error in the sixth, and a three-run blast to left field to close the scoring in the seventh.

= Senior Tommy Eng made his first start on the mound a successful one for the Bulldogs. He allowed two hits, two walks and a run with four strikeouts over 4-2/3 innings to earn the win.

= The teams traded runs in the third as Dorow hit the sacrifice fly to right field and Olivet's Jimmy Schoof countered with a RBI-groundout in the bottom half.

= Mikowski put Adrian in front for good in the top of the fourth with a RBI-single, and senior Jeff Gertley capped the four-run frame with a bases-clearing double to the gap.

= Leading comfortably 5-1, Adrian put the contest away with seven runs over the last two frames.

THE OPPOSITION
Luke Spotts and Austin Cleaver both went 2-for-4 in the nightcap.

Connor Murney, Travis Petts and Schoof accounted for the Comets three hits in the opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME TWO
= Four Adrian pitchers--ShepherdParker Hasse, sophomore Dillon Kelley, junior Shane Healy--combined on a five-hit shutout, which is the staff's second in three outings.

= Both Mikowski and Knorr led the Bulldogs with four hits at the top of the order.

= The Bulldogs struck quickly for two runs in the top of the very first inning. Knorr doubled to center field and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Gertley walked and would cross the plate on a throwing error by the shortstop.

= Adrian scored twice more in the third on another error and Dorow doubled home a run.

= Two of Adrian's five runs were unearned.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian now leads the all-time series over Olivet 102-57 and the Bulldogs have defeated the Comets in 43 consecutive meetings. The 102 victories are the most against any opponent.

= During the four-game series sweep, Adrian produced 34 runs on 36 hits (10 doubles, two triples, two home runs) and 27 walks. The pitching staff earned two shutouts, allowed just two earned runs and had 21 strikeouts in 32 innings.

= The Bulldogs have won a season-high four games in a row. 

= During the Olivet series, Mikowski batted .583 (7-for-12) with a double, two triples, eight runs scored, five walks and four stolen bases.

= With his six RBI on the afternoon, Dorow overtakes the No. 1 position in the MIAA with 21 on the season.

UP NEXT
= Adrian takes a break from MIAA play on Wednesday when it returns home at Nicolay Field to host Heidelberg, starting at 4 p.m. The visiting Student Princes were nationally-ranked earlier in the season.
