TIFFIN, Ohio--Alex Simun and Zach Doran combined on a five-hit shutout to lead host Heidelberg University to a 3-0 win over Adrian College in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.

= Final Scoreline: Heidelberg 3-4-1, Adrian 0-5-1

= Location: Peaceful Valley Field, Tiffin, Ohio; Weather: Cloudy, 40s, Wind 7 mph

= Records: Heidelberg Student Princes 11-7 l Adrian Bulldogs 8-6 overall

= Senior Ian Mikowski went 2-for-5 as the only student-athlete with more than one hit.

= Classmates Ryan Dorow, Brian Killinger and freshman Tristin Richardson added a single each.

= Freshman starting pitcher Brian Gubbini (0-2) gave up two runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts in five innings.

= Four Bulldog relievers--senior Shane Healy, sophomore Jesse Marks, senior Kyle Shepherd, junior Nick Cecil--kept the offense in the game by holding Heidelberg hitless and only a run over the final three innings (HU had nine runners left on base).

Evan Long went 1-for-3 with a walk, run batted in and two runs scored.

= Simun (1-1) got the win after pitching the first six innings with two walks and three strikeouts. He allowed five singles.

Doran earned the save by throwing the last three frames, when he did not allow a hit. He, too, had two walks and three strikeouts.

= Simun got all the run-support he needed in the bottom of the fifth inning when Long singled down the left field line to bring home the first run. Adam Hershberger, the next batter, made it 2-0 on a RBI-single to plate Long, who had reached second base on a throw to home plate on the previous play.

= HU got an insurance run in the seventh when Darrin Shirk drew a bases-loaded walk.

= Student Princes pitching frustrated Adrian batters all day long as the Bulldogs stranded 11 runners--six in scoring position.

= Adrian's best chance to get on the scoreboard came in the top of the seventh when freshman Gunner Rainey walked and senior Dakota Cararo was hit by a pitch to begin the inning. But Doran induced the 'Dogs into hitting three groundouts to escape the jam unscathed.

= Dorow extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the first inning.

= Mikowski tops the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association in hitting with a .491 average (26-for-53).

Heidelberg leads the all-time series 20 to 14, and Coach Craig Rainey is 13-15 versus HU during his Adrian tenure.

= The Bulldogs won last year's meeting, 14-13, in dramatic walk-off fashion at home, overcoming a seven-run deficit after five to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
