WHITEWATER, Wis.—Junior pinch-hitter Brian Guck laced an opposite field triple to the right-field corner that cleared the bases to help Adrian College earn a 5-2 come-from-behind win over University of St. Thomas in its Midwest Regional opening game of the 2017 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship on Thursday.

= Final Scoreline: Adrian 5-12-1, St. Thomas 2-8-0 (NCAA Midwest Regional Game #3)

= Location: Prucha Field at Miller Stadium, Whitewater, Wis.; Weather: Mostly Cloudy, 68 degrees, Wind WNW 14 mph.

= Records: #3 seed Adrian Bulldogs 34-11 overall; #6 seed St. Thomas Tommies 26-17 overall

= National Rankings: Adrian ("RV" National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/, 26 points; "RV" American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, 27 points)

= Seniors Ian Mikowski, Ryan Dorow and sophomore Dugan Darnell had two hits apiece.

= Junior Tommy Parsons moved to 12-1 on the season with a complete-game performance that included eight strikeouts. He walked just one, allowed two earned runs and scattered eight singles.

= Junior Hunter Hayes chipped in a double.

Jake Smith and Joe Burnley
both went 2-for-4.

= Henry DeCaster (L, 8-3) pitched seven strong innings before Adrian got to him for three earned runs in the eighth. He finished with seven strikeouts and two walks, nine hits allowed.

= Trailing 2-0, Adrian forged a five-run rally on six hits and a walk in the bottom of the eighth inning. Darnell got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard with a RBI single to left-center field, scoring Dorow led off with a single and advanced to third base on a double by Hayes.

= Three batters later, Guck hit a bases-loaded triple--the first of the season and only the second of his career--into the right-field corner to give Adrian a 4-2 advantage.

= Senior Miccoy Drzewiecki capped the scoring with a single to left to bring home Guck.

= St. Thomas broke through in the top of the eighth with two runs. Jake Smith singled to center field and advanced to second base on a Zach Gottfredsen sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. After Sam Cobbs walked, Sam Schneider broke a scoreless tie with a single to right field (advanced to second on the throw) to bring home Smith. Hunter Hart made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to right.

= The Tommies had the first good scoring opportunity in the top of the second. Hart led off the frame when he reached base on an error by the third baseman, advancing to second on the throw. After a flyout, Burnley put runners on the corner when he singled to shallow center field. Then with two outs, Burnley stole second base to give UST two runners in scoring position. But Parsons got Ben Carpenter to flyout to right field to end the threat.

= Adrian had its first runner in scoring position in the fourth when Darnell stole second base, following a single, with two outs. But after Tristin Richardson walked, DeCaster got junior Frank Resto to ground out to the shortstop to keep the game scoreless.

= UST threatened again in the fifth after two-out back-to-back singles by Smith and Carpenter, but Parsons struck out Gottfredsen to end the frame unscathed.

= Adrian had a two-out threat of its own in the sixth but couldn't score. Freshman Gunner Rainey ripped a single that the third baseman couldn't handle. Richardson promptly singled off the second baseman's glove and Rainey ran aggressively to third.

= The Bulldogs had another terrific scoring chance in the next frame. Mikowski had an infield single, stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout and tried to score on a wild pitch. But the catcher picked up the ball that was just a few feet from the plate and was able to tag Mikowski for the final out.

= The teams combined for 17 runners left on base (UST--7, Adrian--10) in a close contest that was scoreless for seven innings.

= Today, Parsons set single-season school records with nine complete games, 12 wins and tied with 101 strikeouts. The previous benchmarks were eight complete games by three Bulldogs four times, most recently in 2004; 11 wins by Jason Fryman (11-1) in 2012; and Jeff Nokovich was the first to achieve 101 strikeouts in 2005.

= Mikowski extended his Bulldogs' season stolen bases record to 38 today, which ranks top-5 in the nation.

= Adrian earned its first win over St. Thomas in three meetings. UST previously won spring break doubleheader, 6-5 and 8-2, in Homestead, Fla., on Feb. 25, 2001.

= The Bulldogs pounded out 12 hits this afternoon, marking the 28th time this season they have notched double-digits.

= The 'Dogs improve to 18-21 all-time in 11 NCAA tournament appearances.

= Adrian snapped a three-game losing streak in the NCAA Tournament. The team's last win before today was on May 16, 2014, when it eliminated Concordia Chicago, 3-2, here at the UW-Whitewater regional.

= Two-time national champion St. Thomas is 66-41 in 21 NCAA tournament berths.
