WHITEWATER, Wis.—In a game full of twists and turns, the Adrian College baseball team saw its season come to a close with a heartbreaking 11-8 loss at the hands of nationally-ranked College of St. Scholastica in the 2017 NCAA Division III Baseball Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday.

= Records: #4 seed College of St. Scholastica 34-9 overall; #3 seed Adrian Bulldogs 34-13 overall

= National Rankings: Adrian ("RV" National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/D3baseball.com, 26 points; "RV" American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, 27 points)' St. Scholastica (No. 19 ABCA/CBN, 170 points; No. 23 NCBWA/D3baseball, 82 points)

= Senior Ian Mikowski stole three bases while walking once and getting a hit.

= Junior Hunter Hayes had a three-hit evening and game-high four runs batted in on his fourth home run of the season and a pair of singles.

= Freshman Tristin Richardson was 2-for-4 with a RBI.

= Tyler Duex was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. He hit his second homer of this regional.

= Conor Wollenzien went 3-for-5.

= Eric Pearson, who scored three times, had three RBI on his second home run here in Whitewater and a double among three hits.

= Joe Gonrowski (W, 4-0) got the win in 1-2/3 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed two hits and had a strikeout.

= St. Scholastica scored four runs on five hits in the top of the ninth inning to overcome an 8-7 deficit. Steven Neutzling singled down the left field line to plate two runs and put CSS in the lead for good. Pearson had a RBI double and Wollenzien a RBI single for insurance runs.

= In the bottom of the seventh, Hayes knocked in the go-ahead run with a single off the second baseman's glove and senior Brian Killinger came around to score from second base when the ball went into center field. Adrian led for the first time, 5-4.

= The Saints, however, used the bottom of the order to reclaim the lead in the top of the eighth inning. Trevor Bernsdorf had a RBI-single through the right side to make it 5-5 and Drew Colvard doubled to right field to bring in two runs for a 7-5 advantage. 

= But Adrian struck right back in its home half with three runs of its own. Adrian senior Miccoy Drzewiecki knotted the score at 7-all, hitting a 0-2 pitch into the right-center gap for a two-run double to plate freshman Gunner Rainey (reached on error) and Richardson (walk). Killinger lifted a sacrifice fly to right to make it 8-7.

= Adrian sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth to tie the game 4-all, scoring four runs on three hits and three walks. Hayes got the Bulldogs back in the game with a three-run shot just inside the left field foul pole, with Mikowski (walk) and senior Ryan Dorow (walk). Then with two outs, Rainey singled up the middle and scored on classmate's Richardson double in the left-center gap. 

= CSS struck first with two runs after two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Neutzling singled to right center field and Pearson lined a home run over the left field fence.

= The Saints added two more in the fifth on Tyler Duex's two-run blast to left field, making it 4-0.

= CSS outhit AC 15 to 11. 

= With three stolen bases today, Mikowski extended his Bulldogs' season record to 42, which ranks second in the nation.

= There were four lead changes after the sixth inning.

= The 'Dogs drop to 18-23 all-time in 11 NCAA tournament appearances.

= St. Scholastica is 17-27 in 14 NCAA tournament berths.

= Bulldogs end season 34-13 for their third-most winningest in program history. The 2012 squad had 37 and 2008 won 36.

= Mikowski also leads NCAA Division III with 83 hits, a school record, and .584 on-base percentage.

= Dorow ends his career as the active NCAA leader with 265 hits and 422 total bases--both Bulldog all-time records.

= The 19 combined runs are the most in an Adrian NCAA tournament game since 2012. (Manchester won 13-7).

= This was the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Saints. 

= Adrian's season has come to a close. The Bulldogs are scheduled to return five starters from the lineup and three of four pitchers in their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series rotation.
