FREELAND, Mich.--Jordan Williams (Westland, Mich.) of the Adrian College baseball team has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference announced on Monday.
The freshman right-hander out of Lutheran Westland High School was lights-out in back-to-back appearances while factoring in both Bulldog victories during the team's trip to the Snowbird Collegiate Baseball Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. In Saturday's 12-9 triumph against Denison, Williams chalked up his first career save by throwing two scoreless innings with five strikeouts. The next day in a 5-4 win over nationally-ranked North Central-Illinois, he won his second game by holding the No. 4/8 Cardinals to no runs over five innings. He finished with four hits and three walks allowed with eight strikeouts over seven scoreless innings.
On the season, Williams paces the MIAA with a 1.38 earned-run average and is tied for the conference lead with two victories (against no losses). The business administration major has 13 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
Williams is the second Adrian hurler this season to receive MIAA weekly honors as senior Tommy Parsons was chosen on March 5.
