FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College senior right-hander Tommy Parsons (New Albany, Ohio) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Sunday, the conference office announced on Monday. This marks the second time this season (March 5) and ninth in his career that the business management major has earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week.
Parsons sparked Adrian's 3-1 start in MIAA play with a complete-game-win in extra innings over Alma College on Friday, 3-2. In the first of a four-game weekend series with the Scots, he struck out 12 hitters in nine innings to become the fourth Bulldog ever to surpass 200 strikeouts in a career (208). He also took sole possession of first place on the school's all-time wins list with 31 (against only four losses), winning his last 14 decisions. (Eric Schmidt previously held the AC victories record with a 30-5 mark from 2012-15.)
Both runs Parsons allowed were unearned as he lowered his season earned-run average by almost 1.5 runs to an AC-leading 2.25. He also now tops the conference with 29 strikeouts.
