Bulldogs Take Three of Four From Second Place Calvin College, 5-1 and 8-0

ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College ran its home winning streak to a dozen games dating to last season after sweeping a twinbill from visiting Calvin College, 5-1 and 8-0, on Friday evening to earn three wins in the four-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball series.

= Final Scorelines: Game 1—Adrian 5-7-0, Calvin 1-6-0; Game 2—Adrian 8-13-1, Calvin 0-7-2

= Location: Nicolay Field, Adrian, Mich. ; Weather Conditions: Overcast, 65 degrees, Wind NE 10 mph

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs, 20-5 overall (14-2 MIAA); Calvin Knights, 11-15 overall (9-7 MIAA)

= Sophomores Gunner Rainey and Tristin Richardson led Adrian in the first contest with two hits apiece. Both outfielders had a run batted in while Richardson recorded a double.

= Senior Tommy Parsons improved to 6-0 on the mound this season, pitching another complete game. He had 10 strikeouts against no walks, scattered six hits and allowed an unearned run.

= Freshman Jordan Williams (6-0) was the winning pitcher in Game 2, scattering seven hits in 7-2/3 innings. He walked two and had a career-high 10 strikeouts.

= Junior relief pitcher Jason Schroeder wrapped up the combined shutout with two strikeouts in 1-1/3 innings. He did not surrender a walk or hit.

= Freshman Sean O'Keefe had a career-high four hits, including a pair of doubles, and two RBI in the nightcap. Junior Jordan Torrento, Rainey and Richardson chipped in two apiece, with the latter adding another double on the day.

= Ryan Pena was 2-for-3 in the first game, and Nate DeZwaan contributed a double.

= Ricky Padilla, Jonathan Keane and Ryan Stewart had two hits each in the second contest. Keane and Stewart both had a double.

= The Bulldogs gave Parsons all the offense he would need in the bottom of the very first inning, plating four runs on four hits and two walks. Sophomore Brady Wood capped it with a three-run triple down the right field line.

= The Knights ruined Parsons' shutout bid in the top of the seventh with an unearned run. Keane and Pena singled to open the inning. With two outs, Kyle Houts struck out, but reached base on a passed ball to extend the inning, as Keane scored from third base on the play. Parsons fanned three and got a force-out at second base to end the game.

= Adrian struck early again with three runs in the second. After the first tally came via an error, Resto's first sacrifice bunt of the day brought in a second run. O'Keefe added a RBI-double.  

= Adrian outhit Calvin by a 13 to seven count.

= The Bulldogs added five more runs from the fifth through the seventh innings to blow it open.

= Adrian improves to 95-75 all-time against Calvin, including 52-37 at home. 

= Senior Frank Resto had two sacrifice bunts in tonight's second game to move into a third place tie with Todd Meyers (2006-09) with 24 on the all-time list in Adrian history. Tony Vennekotter is the career record holder with 26, from 2003-06.  

= The last home game the Bulldogs lost in the regular season came on May 6, 2017, to Hope College, 3-2.

= Williams and Parsons rank 1-2 in MIAA earned-run average 1.32 and 1.50, respectively. Both aces have a conference-leading six victories.

= Parsons has a MIAA-best 62 strikeouts while Williams is second at 47.

= Adrian senior Hunter Hayes saw his 13-game hitting streak snapped in the first game of today's doubleheader, finishing 0-for-2 with a walk. But he still leads the MIAA with 28 RBI.

= As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .319 in the month of April to improve to .312 on the season. They are also hitting .355 in the friendly confines of the Nic.

= Adrian junior Dugan Darnell and Wood are tied for third in the MIAA with an identical .375 batting average.

= Adrian steps out of MIAA action next Wednesday at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., starting at 4 p.m.
