BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Senior designated hitter Korey Mazur (Macomb, Mich./Chippewa Valley High School) and junior catcher Gunner Rainey (Adrian, Mich./Madison HS) have earned their debuts on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week, it was released late Monday. Adrian College is the only team to have two offensive student-athletes on the team, as Wheaton (Ill.) and Birmingham-Southern both had a pitcher and position player named.
Starting in back-to-back games to begin a season for the first time in his 34-game career, Mazur led the Adrian offense in batting average (.625), on-base percentage (.667) and slugging percentage (.750) to help the Bulldogs to a 1-1 on their season-opening weekend. In a 15-2 upset of No. 21 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, he posted career highs of four hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in.
After two years as the starting left fielder, Rainey opened the season behind the plate. He went 4-for-8 (.500) with two doubles, three runs and two RBIs during the team's 1-1 season-opening split in Birmingham, Ala. He did not commit an error in 16 total chances. He added .556 on-base and .750 slugging percentages.
This marks the first time since Week 6 of the 2017 campaign that a pair of Bulldogs (seniors Brian Killinger, second baseman, and Ryan Dorow, shortstop) appeared on the D3baseball TOW at the same time.
