FREELAND, Mich.--For the second time in as many weeks and third time this season, Adrian College has swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball weekly awards. On Monday, sophomore shortstop Thomas Miller (Saline High School) repeated as MIAA Position Player of the Week and junior Pierce Banks (Sterling Heights, Mich./Parkway Christian HS) is the MIAA Pitcher of the Week.
Miller sizzled again at the plate by leading Adrian in batting average (.611) on-base percentage (.632) and slugging (1.000) during the team's 4-0 week. He also accounted for 12 runs with five batted in and seven runs scored. Five of his 11 hits went for extra bases. He also committed just one error in 20 total chances for a .950 fielding percentage. Miller slashed .565/.630/.870 when he debuted as the MIAA Position Player of the Week on April 8.
Miller, who is in his first season with the Bulldogs after transferring from NCAA Division I Oakland, is currently batting .416 with 32 RBI, which rank third and second, respectively, in the conference. He also has posted percentages of .474 on-base and .584 slugging. The sports management major leads the team with 42 hits, including a team-best three home runs.
Banks improved to 5-1 on the season after silencing Calvin 12-3 on April 12 when he limited the Knights to five hits, one walk and no earned runs (1R) in six innings of work. With the win, he moves into eighth place on Adrian's all-time chart with a 20-4 mark. He also is now seventh with 164 career strikeouts. The exercise science major also was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on March 19 of this year and April 10, 2017.
On the season, Banks has a 4.10 earned-run average and ranks second in MIAA strikeouts with 37 in 37.1 innings pitched.
Nationally-ranked Adrian travels to Kalamazoo College on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
