ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's basketball team defeated crosstown rival Siena Heights for the first time since 2012 to reclaim The Milk Jug. The 76-62 victory was the first time the Bulldogs had beaten the Saints at home since 2011. DaVonte Harris led the Adrian offense with 26 points. He also contributed seven rebounds and one steal.
Rickey Jackson Jr. and Christian Covile also scored in double digits for the Bulldogs with 15 and 11 respectively. Harris and Jackson each hit three three-pointers in the game for the Bulldogs.
Siena Heights was led by George Goodman and Michael Fomby with 14 and 12 points each.
The Saints were the biggest test for the Bulldogs so far this season, keeping the game close for most of the first half. Jackson Jr. hit a three-point jumper with 8:55 left in the first half to bring the Adrian lead to eight points, 29-22. The Bulldogs would maintain the lead by only scoring off free throws until the 1:16 mark in the first half when Harris would hit a layup to establish a double digit lead, 36-26. The lead would stay at 10 in the Bulldogs' favor, 38-28, going into halftime.
Adrian would build on its lead in the second half. With 14:37 left in the game Jackson Jr. would hit another three-pointer to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the night, 49-36. Adrian would watch its lead diminish when the Saints went on a 12-0 run to cut the Bulldog lead to one with 11:19 left to play in the game.
Following an Adrian timeout Harris would hit a three-pointer to stop the Saints run. The game would continue to go back and forth with the Bulldogs holding on to a slim, single digit lead for the middle of the half. Harris would put the nail in the coffin with another opportunistic three-point jumper to give the Adrian the 12 point lead with 1:40 left to play. The lead would climb to 15 following a couple free throws off Saint intentional fouls.
The Bulldogs will continue their home stand when they host North Park this Saturday, November 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
