Bulldogs Suffer First Setback With a Loss Versus North Park

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's basketball team suffered its first set-back this season with a loss to North Park 73-70. The loss puts the Bulldogs at 5-1 for the season. The Vikings improve to 2-1. Christian Covile recorded his third double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. DaVonte Harris also contributed double digit points with 16. He also tallied seven rebounds. 

The Vikings Michael Hutchinson recorded a double-double for with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead North Park to the victory.

The Vikings started the game with a 10-2 run before the Bulldogs chipped away at the lead and tied the game at 29 each with 4:23 left in the first half. Adrian would take the lead 32-31 off a layup by Rickey Jackson Jr., with 1:43 left to play in the half. The Bulldogs would take a two point lead, 38-36, into halftime.

North Park would start the second half much like the first by going on a 9-0 run to take a seven point lead over Adrian, 45-38. The Bulldogs would rally and bring the score within one point at the 10:48 mark in the second half. With 09:29 left on the clock Covile hit a three-pointer to give the lead back to Adrian 55-54.

The lead wouldn't last long as the Vikings would respond with a three-point play of their own to regain the lead 57-55 on their next possession. Each team would trade threes for the next two possessions putting the score at 60-58 in favor of the Vikings. A Logan Merrick layup would tie the game at 60 with 8:04 left to play in the game.

North Park would score five straight points to take a 65-60 lead over the Bulldogs with just over six minutes remaining in the contest. Adrian would cut the deficit to one point with 2:32 left in the game.

With just three seconds left in the game the Bulldogs were down 71-69 Harris would be fouled by the Vikings Juwan Henry giving him two free throws and an opportunity to tie the game. Harris would miss the first shot and make the second putting the score at 71-70, North Park. The Bulldogs would have no choice but to intentionally foul Lake with one second left in the game and hope for a miss. However, Lake would hit both free thows putting the score at 73-70.

The Bulldogs hit the road on Wednesday, December 2 to face Elmhurst. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
