ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Men's Basketball team upended Olivet 81-61 in their MIAA opener. DaVonte Harris led the team offensively with his second highest point total this season with 28 points. He also contributed four rebounds and one assist.
The score stayed close at the start of the game with neither team able to extend the lead to double digits until Christian Covile drove to the net and hammered in a two handed jam with 3:37 left in the half igniting a Bulldog run that would put the lead at 33-23 in favor of Adrian. The half would end with a 35-26 Bulldog lead.
Adrian would build on their double digit lead in the second half up to 15 in the first five minutes of the half. The Comets would chip away at the lead, cutting it down to single digits with a little over eight minutes left to play. This would be the closest Olivet would come to catching the Bulldogs. Adrian would end the game by building the lead up to its highest point of the game, 81-61.
The Comets went 18-39 (46.2%) from the floor, 7-15 (46.7%) from three and 18-33 (54.5%) from the free throw line. Adrian went 30-60 (50%) from the floor, 9-20 (45%) from the three point line and 12-24 (50%) from the charity stripe. Adrian edged the Comets 34-32 in rebounds and 15-12 in assists. Olivet also committed 25 turnovers for the game, Adrian had 10. The Bulldogs would score 31 points off turnovers.
Adrian travels to face MIAA opponent Alma on Saturday, January 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
